Dam & Hydro Electric Construction

One of the first major hydro-electric construction projects completed by Wyman & Simpson was the Dead River Dam, built for Central Maine Power in 1949. Since that time, we have constructed numerous hydroelectric facilities and substations in both wet and dry conditions.

Lockwood Fish Boom & Fish Passage—Kennebec River

Owner: Florida Power & Light

Wyman & Simpson installed a new bypass gate and fish boom at the site of the Lockwood Dam on the Kennebec River. The new passage was cut through a 10-foot-thick forebay wall to construct a new gate and operator. New trash racks and a floating boom were installed. The project also required a considerable amount of dredging (shown here). The resulting installation serves as a barrier, guiding fish away from the dam's turbines.
